The Stress-Strain Microprobe® (SSM™) Mobile system performs nondestructive Automated Ball Indentation® (ABI®) tests on in-situ testing on in-service components (in the field) to measure key mechanical properties including yield strength, flow properties (true-stress versus true-plastic-strain curve), strain hardening parameters, and fracture toughness of ferritic steels. The SSM™ system has a small load frame for field applications and an optional bench-top mount (for ABI® testing of small samples and destructive testing of a minitensile specimen or a disc-compact fracture toughness specimen).
Two columns with very high stiffness approximately 305mm (12") high; 127 mm (5") wide (center to center of the 19.1mm (0.75”) diameter columns), 229 mm (9") deep, weight approx. 17 kg (37 lbs.) with 3m (10 ft) cables
Mechanical ball screw actuator driven by a motor with high torque capability for 4.45 KN (1000 lb) force.
Two (2) Precision, 113.4 Kg (250 lb) Tension/Compression type with 150% safe operational range, having non-linearity 0.2% FS, non-repeatability 0.05% FS, output 2 mV/V, complete with signal conditioner. Grips/fixtures: Suitable for holding the indenter and the test piece, and miniature tensile grips.
AC-AC ultra-precision LVDT with working range of ± 0.5 mm (± 0.020"), sensitivity of 5mV/V/0.025mm (0.001"), linearity ± 0.20% FS, and repeatability 0.00010 mm (0.000004”). Two LVDTs are included with the SSM-Mobile model – the second LVDT is a spare sensor for field use.
Precision tungsten carbide ball indenters of various sizes in the range of 0.508 - 1.575 mm (0.020 - 0.062") diameter available for bench-top applications and must be used with the optional/appropriate load cells. Four indenters, 0.76mm (0.030 in) diameter are included with the SSM-Mobile system. Other indenters are optional, and the 1.575 indenter requires the 454 kg load cell. The indenter holder consists of a stainless steel rod, which is threaded on one end for mounting to the load cell and the other end has a stainless steel chuck to hold the indenter.
Including microprocessor based control for motor, LVDT, load cell, signal conditioners, a data acquisition/control system having a 16-bit resolution, and a 12-volt DC power is provided by one lithium-ion battery pack. The battery is rechargeable by single-phase 100-240VAC, 50-60 Hz power source, all these components are enclosed in a hand-held case. Weight of this hand-held electronics case, computer, and cables is 10.5 kg (23 lbs).
Two (2) laptop or tablet computers. The computer is mounted to the lid of the electronics case (the control module).
The state-of-the-art SSM™- Suite software package consists of the following programs: Automated Ball Indentation (ABI®), ABI®-determined fracture toughness master curve of ferritic steels in the transition region (ASTM E 1921), and Tensile.
Critical software operational updates will be furnished at no charge for one (1) year after shipment. New upgraded versions will be offered for sale when released.
Fracture Toughness (ASTM E 1820) for disc-compact specimens. The SSM™- Suite software package is written in National Instruments’ LabView® graphical language which allows great graphics capability during the test (real-time display) and for data analysis.
Two (2) days training of buyer’s personnel by ABI® Integrity Services.
One (1) day commissioning of the SSM™ system performed by ABI® Integrity Services personnel is required for warranty validation. Compliance testing is performed before shipment by ABI® Integrity Services. All contracts are subject to United States Export Regulations and required export licenses. An End-user’s statement may be required before approval of international orders.
Limitation of Remedy and Disclaimer of Warranty Any of our products which, under normal operating conditions, proves defective in material or in workmanship within one year from the date of shipment by ABI® Integrity Services, will be repaired or replaced free of charge, provided that the buyer (1) promptly notifies ABI® Integrity Services of any such defect; (2) provides ABI® Integrity Services with satisfactory proof of the defect and that the product was properly installed, maintained and operated within the limits of rated and normal usage; and (3) obtains from ABI® Integrity Services authorization to return the product. The replacement product will be shipped CIP our facility. The Buyer is responsible for all freight charges, import/export fees and duties. The remedy set forth herein does not extend to any product or part thereof or which, under normal usage has inherently shorter useful life than one year, specifically indenters. The remedy set forth herein does not apply to damage to or defects in any product caused by the buyer’s misuse or neglect, nor does it apply to any product which has been repaired or disassembled which, in the sole judgment of ABI® Integrity Services, affects the performance of the product. The remedy set forth herein is the buyer’s exclusive remedy and will satisfy all obligations of ABI® Integrity Services whether based on contract, negligence or otherwise, ABI® Integrity Services is not responsible for any incidental or consequential loss or damage, which might result from a failure of any ABI® Integrity Services product. THIS EXPRESS WARRANTY IS MADE IN LIEU OF ANY AND ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
